Rated 5 out of 5 by Hints for installation First, if you're confident in your carpentry, and you can frame a nice even hole, ignore the vertical dimension, there's too much slop. I ended up putting in a 13/32 plywood spacer to tighten it up, you can go a 1/4 shorter easily. Caveat, this only applies if you can push the sleeve in from the outside. If you're working in a 6" stud exterior wall, the slant on the cut should be 1/8" down across the board, assuming you're cutting into existing studs, or making new cripples. Be sure to slant both the bottom and top plates. It's obviously easier to install this below a window, if you can, because you won't need a header. If you're real careful you can even leave existing drywall intact. First frame the hole, then use the edges as a guide to cut the hole in the outside wall, using one of those oscillating tools, they are very neat. Cut a bevel on the edge of a 2 x 4 (about 12 1/2 degrees) and attach it as a lip on the outside to increase the wall dimensions to 8". Buy the "architectural" outside grill, no question. But do not install it per the directions. First, add a bug screen for the open side of the unit (you can tape it to the sleeve), then drill the grill and the top and bottom of the sleeve for 1" #6 sheet metal screws and install it from the outside. That way you can get access to the back guts of the unit to clean without pulling it out. Those beasts are heavy and delicate. 8/1/14
