Not sure about the rest of you, but I expect my brand new microwave to last more than 2.5 years? We are a small family (4) and use the microwave daily (maybe slightly less) - we are not "tough" on appliances. This microwave worked perfectly well for 2.5 years and then just stopped heating. I was nicely told by the warranty folks at Whirlpool that I could purchase a repair warranty -- but it's the same price as buying a new microwave? Why would I do that? I'll take my $ and buy a NON Whirlpool appliance. Shame on Whirlpool for adding to the landfill problem we have.

This microwave came installed with my new home last May 2011. I requested white, Whirlpool since that is what I had owned with my previous counter top microwave. This microwave looks great and has met all my needs to date. Microwave noise when operating seems no more or less loud than any other microwave that I have used. My previous white Whirlpool operated flawlessly for 9 yrs and I left it, rather than move it, because I was having this new unit installed. I really like the less than BRIGHT light that comes on when the door is open and when in operation. I gave it 3 stars for value because at the moment I don't know the cost. If the cost is generally competitive then I'd give it 5 stars for value.

Simple and nice looking, but dislike the loud vent fan that comes on automatically and can't seem to be able to turn off until it stops detecting steam.

Bought a Whirlpool microwave in Sept 2009, within 2 months it stopped working. Would not heat/cook. Whirlpool sent out a technician, who fixed the problem. Then 2 months later same thing happened, again sent out a tech to fix the problem, same issue/same part. Now is the fourth time the microwave has stopped working with the same issue. Whirlpool refuses to replace the unit. They will only continue to send out a technician to fix the same problem over and over again, at least until the warranty runs out.
