We had an old Fedders in-wall sleeve in the bedroom of our new apt. We had the 9700 BTU installed in the 187 sq ft room. DOES COOL THE ROOM BUT LOUD. Shame, gonna swap out for the 8K unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Paperpusher3 Replacement for Fedders A Sleeve unit
This is a replacement for our 23 yr old Fedders thru the wall unit in our LR. I love the fact that this has three fan speeds, a thermostat and timer. It was very easy to be installed and we were able to use our old sleeve which saved us $100 for the sleeve and $100 on the install.
The only negative we've found is that all the vents blow up where our old one blew out the front and the louver had a directional adjustment. Even adjusting the side to side louvers or putting the fan on high doesn't help push the air down into the adjoining rooms. We are using a fan in front of it to do that. It is helping cool the adjoining stairwell.
The faceplate was cracked upon arrival and had to be replacedand it doesn't feel that sturdy. The vents louvers are very flimsy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by chrisd Good fit if you have a Fedders-B wall sleve but...
...I'm unhappy about the lowest fan setting - which still is pretty loud. Also I was annoyed that I needed an extra metal bracket to install it - which is an additional 40$, for just a little metal divider! For the rest, the unit cools well and does a good job. The money save mode really shuts down all fans. The remote is cheap and doesn't offer anything special - no display, no remote temperature sensor, just the basic.
Given the price of the unit and the expectation towards Friedrich I had expected somewhat more, subsequently I would buy a Fedders next time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ACStan Made the way they used to make them.
These units are beefy machines. Only Friedrich builds a unit this way anymore. You will spend extra for this unit, but it will pay off in the long run.
