Description
Who They Are
Fisher and Paykel Appliances designs, manufactures and markets a range of innovative household appliances developed with a commitment to technology, design, user friendliness and environmental awareness.

Their Heritage
Their heritage dates to the 1930's with the manufacture of designs made under licence. The pioneering spirit established by the founders encouraged a culture that challenged conventional appliance design and production systems. Available at AJ Madison.

Their Products
Having learned about electronic drive systems through their flexible manufacturing equipment, they applied the knowledge to driving appliances. The world's first appliance using Brushless Direct Current Motors was introduced in the 1980's. This design later gave way to the development of the Smart Drive clothes washer.

Their People
They have created a culture where people and innovation can flourish. Their people and their ideas are the key to their success. Their people are the key to its success. They combine with three key factors to contribute to their growth - an ongoing commitment to research and development; an environment that allows their people to develop innovative ideas; a Board of Directors that gives these ideas the time and capital to meet their long-term goals.

EcoSmart
One of North America's most Energy Efficient Top Load Agitator Washer uses only 24% of the energy of a traditional washer. Complete the laundry in up to half the time of a frontloader, 1,000 RPM spin saves up to 30% time and energy in the dryer. This super capacity washer with unique brushless DC motor and smart electronics increases reliability with no belts, brakes, pulleys, clutches or gearboxes - parts that aren't there can't fail.
Energy Info
This washer uses 198 kWh/yr and has an estimated yearly operating cost of $21.96.

The estimated yearly operating cost is based on doing 8 laundry loads a week and the 2011 national average electricity cost of $.1109 per kWh. Your operating cost will depend on your utility rates and usage.

Features
  • Direct Drive Motor
  • Performance you can count on. Unlike conventional machines, their autowashers use intelligence to continually adapt the wash action and water level to suit the load.
  • How Sensors in the electronics monitor clothes movement and adjust the agitator for either a gentle or lively action.
  • It's rather like hand washing, where your hands communicate the feel of the fabric to the brain, which in turn tells the hands how hard or soft to rub the clothes.
  • Load sensing
  • Another world first. Load sensing, senses and automatically sets the correct wash action for your load.
  • Available at AJ Madison.
  • 3 Spin Speeds (330, 670, 1,000 RPM)
  • The direct drive motor allows a range of spin speeds for different fabric types.
  • A high spin speed removes water efficiently, reducing drying time.
  • Eco Active Wash System
  • Boosts soil removal and hygiene while conserving energy.
  • Recirculation of water and concentrated detergent during pre-wash improves wash performance creating an action similar to a frontloader without the time constraints of heating water.
  • Auto Water Level
  • The size of the load is sensed and the optimum water level is automatically selected, eliminating water wastage and fabric damage caused by too little water.

Product Reviews
Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 17 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Internet buy I love this machine and I am a single man! It is somewhat quiet and really awesome. Does a really good job and the spin cycle can almost dry the clothes. (except for delicate cycle) Energy use rating is $21.00 a year! Also no more finding the washer in the middle of the basement. 6/20/10
Rated 4 out of 5 by I'm happy We moved and had to buy a new washer. We had a GE front loader at our old house that I hated. I decided to go with a top loader this time and so far I am happy. The best thing is how fast the clothes get clean. Most loads take about 45 minutes. My front loader would take a minimum of 1.5hrs. I use cloth diapers on my youngest and they are coming out nice and clean and take about an hour (vs 5 hrs with my old machine). The machine has some water effeciency features built in but I'm not sure how it compares with a front loader. The machine is also very large. I can fit lots of clothes in it without a problem. I have washed some blankets in it and it did pretty good with the balance. It would bang around a few times and then it seemed to fix itself. It is fairly quiet. You can still watch tv and have conversations while it is on. It does make a kind of weird plunging like sound while it is washing, but so far I haven't had it bang around and shake the whole house. The instructions were well written, easy to read, and had good illustrations. The spanish and english sections were seperate which I think also makes it easier. I just hope it has good longevity. 7/12/10
Rated 5 out of 5 by love my new washer My old Kenmore died after 20 years and I tried to replace it with a new Kenmore - well that didn't work. First new model didn't work on delivery, second replacement model didn't work after one day. Again, after MANY HOURS of research, I decided on the Fiser Paykel. I did not want and electronic mother board, I did not want water sensor, but this machine has both. I like the fact that you can over ride the water sensor and choose your own level, although I do use the automatic sensor. My clothes come out super clean and they almost dry after the spin cycle. It offers different spin cycle speeds, which is nice for delicates. The only problem I have is since the spin for delicates is slow, to protect the clothes, they are quite wet when the cycle is finished. But I will live with that as opposed to shredded clothing. I am truly happy that I purchased this machine 9/2/10
Rated 5 out of 5 by FP Washer I love how quiet this machine is and how easy it is to choose settings. Best washer I have owned in 40 years. 12/29/10
