Why Choose Friedrich?
As you shop for the perfect room air conditioner, you may encounter some familiar brand names. You've seen them on toasters, refrigerators, microwaves and washing machines.
Not the Friedrich name. Because air conditioners are the sole focus of their company. They don't manufacture light bulbs or televisions. They make air conditioners.
You'll find a range of choices: room, portable, ductless split systems, to name just a few. Their product pages will help you determine which type of air conditioner and installation best meet your needs.
For quality, performance, efficiency, choice and service, Friedrich is the name to know. Before you make this important purchase, find out what makes Friedrich air conditioners different.
Durable, Quiet, Efficient
Friedrich air conditioners are hard-working and hard-wearing. Their commercial-grade products are the first choice for tough environments, from oil rigs to the Kennedy Space Center. Constructed from the highest-quality materials and components, these units are built to exacting standards - yet they are among the quietest and most energy-efficient available.
Universal Fit For Existing Thru-the-Wall Sleeves
Uni-Fit makes it easy to replace air conditioners for existing 24.5", 26" or 27-1/2" sleeves without complicated, time-consuming retrofits. This small unit is specifically designed to replace virtually any thru-the-wall air conditioner quickly and cost-effectively.
Depending on the existing sleeve's size, Uni-Fit's smaller dimensions may require the use of the included trim ring to bridge a small gap between the unit and the existing sleeve. The trim ring will fit gaps up to 1" on the sides and 1/2" on the top of the unit for a neat, finished appearance. All models include a remote control.
How to Choose a Room Air Conditioner
Compared to large capacity central units, room air conditioners have several advantages. The initial cost of a room air conditioning unit is significantly lower than the cost of central air. Because room air conditioners are designed for cooling small spaces, operating costs are reduced. And, room air conditioners can provide personalized temperature and humidity controls that central systems cannot.
Calculating Cooling Capacity
Cooling capacity is the critical factor in properly selecting a room air conditioner. Cooling capacity is measured in British Thermal Units (BTUs) and typical models will range in capacity from 5,000 BTUs to 28,500 BTUs.
Choosing an undersized unit will overwork the unit and it will not cool properly. Choosing an oversized unit will cost more to buy and operate and it will not dehumidify properly.
We can help you to calculate capacity. Be prepared to provide specific information on:
- Room Dimensions
- A simple floor plan to show the location of doors and north-facing windows
- The number of people it will serve
- Sources of heat such as lamps, TV and appliances
- An explanation of what's above the intended room
- Your insulation provisions
Cooling Capacity by Room Size
Measure the length and width of the area to be cooled. Multiply the length by the width to determine square footage or square meters. When cooling rooms with uninsulated ceilings, great rooms, or southern or western sun exposures - step up to the next BTU size.
| Room Size | BTU |
|
| Sq. Ft. | Sq. m | |
| 150 | 14 | up to 5,000 |
| 165 | 15 | 5,200 |
| 216 | 20 | 6,000 |
| 350 | 33 | 8,000 |
| 425 | 39 | 9,000 |
| 500 | 46 | 10,000 |
| 640 | 60 | 14,000 |
| 900 | 84 | 15,100 |
| 1,110 | 103 | 18,000 |
| 1,170 | 109 | 18,500 |
| 1,435 | 133 | 22,000 |
| 1,672 | 154 | 25,000 |
| 1,960 | 182 | 28,500 |

Rated 2 out of 5 by Richard Fried 13k Wall AC
This is a great machine; slim, well made, quiet. I was retrofitting an existing hole so bought the "unisleave". Nothing wrong with this idea HOWEVER - the external grill is completely insufficient: cheap looking aluminum grill (it looks cheap because it is cheap). The grill, which is really just a light duty mesh, is quite insufficient to protect the excellent & expensive machine behind it, particularly in a hurricane prone area such as mine (Virginia). This is inexcusable, one pays enough for the machine & the sleeve, only to find out that there is no attractive & efficient grill available for this sleeve. This could be corrected very easily and inexpensively - if the AJ & the manufacturer really have the customer's best interests in mind. This can easily be corrected and let's hope that someone reads this & wakes up!
PS - ex the grill issue, the AC is excellent, well made and first class.

Rated 4 out of 5 Beware the Cord!
Works as advertised. We had a wall sleeve, so didn't need most of the installation material. Plenty of foam for tight mountain. Beware the 6s_P plug - very difficult to find an extension cord, and the provided chord will barely reach around the unit if your outlet is on the other side. Another 12" of cord would have been useful.
