The Hoover story begins in 1907. Murray Spangler, an inventor who worked nights as a janitor, had an asthma problem. He called upon his inventor's creativity to find a solution to the dust that aggravated his asthma as he swept up at night. Spangler gathered a tin soap box, a fan, a sateen pillow case and a broom handle, and assembled an odd-looking, cumbersome contraption that managed to pull the dust away from the air he breathed. He quickly realized that this "suction sweeper," as he called it, had enormous sales potential, and he began seeking financial backing. W.H. "Boss" Hoover, owner of a leather goods manufacturing shop, bought the patent from Spangler in 1908, retained him as a partner, and soon had six employees assembling six units a day in a corner of the leather goods shop. Now that's truly a humble beginning.

I purchased the same vacuum 3 different times over the past 10 years. I have pets and children with allergies and this vacuum has awesome suction power. However, the belts are a pain. On the first 2 vaccums, the small belt broke atleast every other month - the replacement belt was hard to find and was difficult to put on. Now, on the vacuum which I purchased only 6 months ago, the large belt falls off atleast once a week. I figured after 10 years Hoover would have fixed this problem but they haven't. I keep a "spare" vacuum around just incase the belt comes off and I have guests coming over (putting the belt back on is time-consuming). I will NOT buy this vacuum again unless Hoover addresses this reoccuring long-term problem.

Just recently purchased this. I became a bit suspicious taking it out of the box because it seemed cheaply made. However, I have always used Hoover products and have been satisfied. I used it for the first time today. It worked approximately 10 minutes and then the brush roller stopped turning. I suspect it was a belt problem. We immediately boxed it back up and have returned it. No QUALITY product only works for 10 minutes!

I have allergies and a big dog . this vacuum was on the list that the clinic recommended. the suction is great! Even when using the attachments the suction was great,unlike our old LG vacuum.

Years ago I had a great Hoover that lasted many years. Purchased a new one in June, 2012. It lasted 4 months. Hoover did replace it, however, now the second one is broken. I certainly expect a vacuum to last more than a few months. I'm so done w/Hoover!
