The Hoover story begins in 1907. Murray Spangler, an inventor who worked nights as a janitor, had an asthma problem. He called upon his inventor's creativity to find a solution to the dust that aggravated his asthma as he swept up at night. Spangler gathered a tin soap box, a fan, a sateen pillow case and a broom handle, and assembled an odd-looking, cumbersome contraption that managed to pull the dust away from the air he breathed. He quickly realized that this "suction sweeper," as he called it, had enormous sales potential, and he began seeking financial backing. W.H. "Boss" Hoover, owner of a leather goods manufacturing shop, bought the patent from Spangler in 1908, retained him as a partner, and soon had six employees assembling six units a day in a corner of the leather goods shop. A humble beginning indeed.

I've had this vacuum for years, and never gave it much thought. Today I had to replace the belt, and realized how dependable this vacuum has been over the years. Not sure how it stacks up againts more expensive models or brands, but it hasn't let me down and keeps our carpets clean.

I purchased my WindTunnel over 12 years ago when we adopted two cats after reading reviews on pet hair pickup. I have had to replace the belt and power cord but would not trade it for any other brand. I use the longer hose and attachments for my hardwood floors, kitchen vinyl, furniture, blinds, literally anywhere there is dust/dirt. It is easy to change out attachments/hoses. My only minor complaint is that it sometimes tips over backwards, but that's probably my fault as I get carried away when cleaning. Bottom line, I love this vaccuum and would purchase again.

Not that my other vacuum cleaners are junk, but I found this vacuum on the side of the street with all the attachments and it is now the best vacuum I have. I put a new bag, filter and belt on it and it worked like a champ!

I was excited about this vac since the reviews stated it went well from carpet to tile to hardwood floors. Well on carpet it was great!! But on my tile and hardwood floors not so much....I could feel the debris shooting back and hitting me on my legs and feet!! It did pick up things like a piece of hard cat food but anything smaller it shot back at me.
