Rated 2 out of 5 Form over Function
If you are considering this fridge you are probably in the same boat I was in…wanted something counter depth and needed it to be French doors. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of options out there and those requirements force you to choose form over function. This fridge is beautiful from the outside (custom panels) but I resent it everytime I open it, the point of comparison being a Kenmore Elite from 2001 believe it or not.
First, there is this wacky ‘rail’ on the left door and if it is not in the correct position when you close the fridge, you cannot close the doors and you may accidentally damage the unit. The layout is dysfunctional with very little flexibility. The back of the top area protrudes out, so it you can’t put anything tall on the back part of the top shelf. For example, if you want to put milk and juice on the top shelf, you have to put shorter things behind them to utilize the space…but then it’s difficult to see those shorter things. The shelves in the main area are vertically adjustable, but they span the entire width of the fridge as opposed to having 2 sets of shelves, each set spanning half of the width, which would give you more options for configuration and be easier to remove and clean.
The door storage is awful. There are only 3 shelves on each door and you cannot adjust them at all. Typically you store condiments on the door but to do so in this unit would be a waste of space because there is so much vertical space between the shelves. So in order to utilize the space you need to store tall things on the door shelves.
The freezer configuration is OK, but icemaking capability is poor. If ice is important to you, you will need to get a stand-alone icemaker.
Bottom line – when you spend this much money on something, you expect it to be a pleasure to use (an intuitive one at that) and to impress you with its function. Instead, you will find yourself constantly trying to figure out where to put things in order to utiliize the inflexible configuration to its max. Sorry Thermador - not impressed.
