I still have to learn how to load it in the most efficient way, but I am running it so often - it does not matter much. The most often used regime - half load! So quiet, so elegant, if only it was easy to clean the stainless steel... but I knew it from the very beginning, no surprise there. LOVE IT! My only surprise was that the first one delivered was destroyed in transit. Too bad!

This unit was purchased to replace our 10 year old +/- Miele G851SC+ which needed a $400+ repair. In addition to the defective pump, several plastic parts were crumbling, whether from heat, water or detergent I don’t know. Though we liked it, we thought the Miele should have had a longer life so decided to look for something different.
With AJ Madison’s great search we narrowed the field quickly. Specifically, we wanted the silverware (third) tray, a great convenience. Surprisingly few manufacturers have it, but it’s easy to use and frees space in the main machine. The other must-have was quiet. With an advertised 42db this Bosch seemed to fit the bill, at a cost about 30% less than a new Miele.
The interior is cavernous and infinitely flexible. Silverware or long items (like barbeque tools) can go on the top tray or in the traditional (removable) silverware holder. Fold down wings on several sides to enable you to wash stemware. The middle tray adjusts up/down and you can also remove the top tray to get even more height – great for tall items like vases or champagne flutes. You can fit in an incredible amount of stuff.
It does a good job of cleaning. We usually use the “auto” setting. I’m not too impressed with the results on the “half load” setting, and I would recommend not using the upper (silverware) tray with this setting. The “express” (1/2 hour total) works well. Best of all, the machine is **quiet**.
The interior trays don’t seem awfully sturdy, though it seems more perception than reality, and the door is very stiff – quite hard to pull open, but I assume this will ease with age. It comes with everything you need to hook it up, but be warned that the electrical connection is in the right rear (as looking from front) and the supplied cord, while adequate, isn’t overly long, so if your connection is on the left it’s going to be tight to reach the connection before pushing the unit in.
As an aside, it happens that I have had to replace virtually all my major appliances over the past year. With some help from the utility company I’ve been able to separate energy savings from weather and price related changes. It looks like I’ll get a 2-3 year payback. If, like me, you haven’t been in the market for appliances in the past decade you’ll be happy to know they really are more energy efficient.
