Since it's introduction in 1999, the GE Profile Advantium oven has won numerous awards for its innovative speedcook technology. Harnessing the power of light, it does what no other oven has done before - deliver delicious results in minutes. Today, Advantium is commanding attention, not only for its powerful capabilities, but also for its bold appearance. A window framed by two opposing arcs and a unique sculptured handle make the Advantium a stunning addition to any kitchen. It's the perfect second oven!
Using microwave technology and heat from quartz-halogen lamps, these ovens offer microwave cooking and lightning-fast baking and roasting results, all in one unit. This model is designed to be built into the kitchen, either by itself or over a regular oven. It's attractive and has a wipe-clean, shiny stainless-steel interior. The controls on this model are electronic, eliminating the cumbersome knob used on earlier models. While its claim to fame is fast baking and roasting, this unit also does a good job of re-heating and defrosting through microwaving alone. Somewhat of an inconvenience are the included pans that must be shuffled about to accommodate various cooking functions. Another consideration is power: GE offers the option of running Advantium ovens on 120-volt power or 240-volt power. This model runs on 240-volt power and by all reports is the better performer of the other Advantium model. In many instances it will require the installation of an additional outlet or an upgrade in electrical power. You'll also need to spend some time learning to prepare recipes in this oven. Not every recipe responds well "as is" to this unit. Some changes in procedure may be required to gain successful results with all your favorite foods. If you have the time, money, and are willing to experiment, the results may be well worth the effort.
