The Hoover story begins in 1907. Murray Spangler, an inventor who worked nights as a janitor, had an asthma problem. He called upon his inventor's creativity to find a solution to the dust that aggravated his asthma as he swept up at night. Spangler gathered a tin soap box, a fan, a sateen pillow case and a broom handle, and assembled an odd-looking, cumbersome contraption that managed to pull the dust away from the air he breathed. He quickly realized that this "suction sweeper," as he called it, had enormous sales potential, and he began seeking financial backing. W.H. "Boss" Hoover, owner of a leather goods manufacturing shop, bought the patent from Spangler in 1908, retained him as a partner, and soon had six employees assembling six units a day in a corner of the leather goods shop. Now that's a humble beginning.
The Hoover Platinum Collection Bagless Cyclonic Canister features a Multi-Stage Cyclonic Filtration System, which means that the air going thru the filter is cleaner than the air that was pulled into the vacuum so that the filter will stay clean longer, and the vacuum will have no loss of suction when cleaning. I got this model for FREE when my previous Hoover was recalled, and I still feel like I got ripped off. Worst vacuum cleaner EVER! Every single time my husband or I use this thing, we find ourselves discussing at length how much we absolutely hate hate hate it.
The retractable cord has never worked, refusing to lock when the cord is out and instead constantly in retract mode, pulling with enough force to unplug the #@$! thing. And the part where the wand attaches to the vacuum part comes apart several times every time I use it. It's fairly easy to cram all the wires back in and jam it all together really hard so it latches, but after 6 months of this, the wires running through this part are frayed and torn. Definitely a fire hazard.

Hello: I purchased this vac approx 6 months ago, and wanted to use it before I made a judgement on it.. I have reviewed many vacuums and decided that Hoover was the one for me.. I received my vacuum and was so excited. I love it, the suction is awesome. It almost feels like its self propelled.. so easy to go. I have no complaints about it, other than two concerns. I find it a bit hard to maneuver around.. ( a bit hard to follow me), but the main concern I have it, for some reason it shuts down on me during vacuuming.. I am trying to contact hoover to ask them if this is a common thing.. Wondered if anyone else has had this problem... thank you..

I needed a GREAT vacuum for dog hair and bird feathers and pet dander! This machine performed superbly in those areas. This is my 1st canister type vacuum and it takes some getting used to, but I found the suction to be excellent,handling of the machine is a bit "awkward"..It is superbly quiet and I was able to vacuum under beds,cabinets,tables.desks..etc with great ease! I love the look of this cleaner as well. The dirt cup could be bigger in my opinion but then that would also make the machine bigger, it held up amazingly well when full and did NOT lose any power or suction when the cup is full as you find in so many other bagless machines.The dirt cup is awkward to hold while emptying it and wiping it out and I find the handle to install the attachments on is quite difficult to loosen from the wand. The pet hair tool worked amazingly well on the sofa, it didn't stop spinning like most of them do when little pressure is applied, So overall, after only using it once ( I just got it delivered about 2 hours ago) I find it EXCEEDS my expectations..I have been a loyal Hoover consumer for decades and I am glad I "stuck" with Hoover, they NEVER seem to disappoint me!! GREAT JOB on this MACHINE Hoover!!!

I am thrilled with the vacuum itself as well as the whole order proceedure. Very nice people to deal with, and even got a discount AND FREE DELIVERY to Canada. Could not get much better than that. I went to the consumer report to find the best recommended vacuum and it was HOOVER!! I bought this vac site unseen, and when it arrived 5 days later.. (including Christmas), I was totally thrilled with everything about it.. the suction is amazing, but the best thing to me was the extented wand for vacuuming.. I am tall and NEVER found a vac that extented this far.. I have nothing bad to say about the whole experience. I thank HOOVER for the great service as well as the great vacuum.. I only hope if anything goes wrong with it, (which I doubt), that I will continue to get the same excellent service.. thank you again.. signed, one happy Canadian customer..
