The Hoover story begins in 1907. Murray Spangler, an inventor who worked nights as a janitor, had an asthma problem. He called upon his inventor's creativity to find a solution to the dust that aggravated his asthma as he swept up at night. Spangler gathered a tin soap box, a fan, a sateen pillow case and a broom handle, and assembled an odd-looking, cumbersome contraption that managed to pull the dust away from the air he breathed. He quickly realized that this "suction sweeper," as he called it, had enormous sales potential, and he began seeking financial backing. W.H. "Boss" Hoover, owner of a leather goods manufacturing shop, bought the patent from Spangler in 1908, retained him as a partner, and soon had six employees assembling six units a day in a corner of the leather goods shop. Now that's a humble beginning.

I have owned several vacuums and really did my homework before buying this vacuum. Very sturdy and light weight. The suction is incredible. Accessory tools are sturdy and the pet brush attachment is great. Am finding a lot less dusting because it is not bagless. Own a bagless upright and it can't compare to the performance this vacuum has. Filters available almost anywhere. Highly recommend this vacuum!!!!

I am not the regular user of the vac but was concerned about the decrease in suction. After visiting the Hoover site, reviewing all manuals including the parts list, I decided to attempt to improve the suction. I found, many of the manual instructions, bag replacement, filter cleaning, and usage, no dampness, had been exceeded. Trouble shooting suggested that the hose assembly was clogged. I took the hose ends off, be careful, the hose is a conduit for electricity, do not break or cut internal hose electrical lines. Do not use a wire hanger. I used a broom handle once I removed both ends, one end is glued, used lots of electrical tape in putting the glued end back together to assure no shorts and to maintain suction. I was amazed, the bag indicator returned to normal and it works like new. A good value at the price point, but follow all maintenance instructions.
