The Hoover story begins in 1907. Murray Spangler, an inventor who worked nights as a janitor, had an asthma problem. He called upon his inventor's creativity to find a solution to the dust that aggravated his asthma as he swept up at night. Spangler gathered a tin soap box, a fan, a sateen pillow case and a broom handle, and assembled an odd-looking, cumbersome contraption that managed to pull the dust away from the air he breathed. He quickly realized that this "suction sweeper," as he called it, had enormous sales potential, and he began seeking financial backing. W.H. "Boss" Hoover, owner of a leather goods manufacturing shop, bought the patent from Spangler in 1908, retained him as a partner, and soon had six employees assembling six units a day in a corner of the leather goods shop.

I had two of these that with each, just after the one-year warranty expired, I began to have problems. In both cases, the head broke off. Each had also been overheating and you had to turn it off and wait 10 minutes or so before it would start again. It's a shame became it has higher amps than most stick vacuums and worked well for awhile. Hoover products used to be very reliable but something has gone wrong in quality control. This item is just not made to last beyond the one year warranty. I figured the first one was just an anomaly...but when it happened with the one I bought as a replacement, I knew it was a generic problem.

This is the greatest little vac I have ever used.I had the model before this one, used it till I couldn't get belts etc: Then I got this one, have used it almost everyday for going on 9 yrs. Now I am going to get myself a new one just like it. Luv, Luv, Luv this little vac. Don't know how it could ever get a bad review?

Used this to sweep hardwood floors. Under these easy cleaning conditions, the product fell apart. Power nozzle kept falling off, product is now in the garbage.

Rated 3 out of 5 by retired & lovin' it Many good features
I liked that it was a light-weight all in one corded vac. It did a good job picking up hair from the bathroom floor. Iiked the power beater for use on carpeting. Worked well on throw rugs. The filter was very messy and hard to clean. The vacuum tended to get very hot and would sometimes overheat. It turned over way to easily when I would pause and lean it against a wall during cleaning. In fact it broke in two at the neck the last time I used it. Had many useful qualities but would hesitate to buy another one.
