Rated 1 out of 5 Failed control panel
Like so many other customers here, the touch pad on my microwave failed after five years. The replacement panel costs as much buying this microwave again (though I won't be doing that). The problem started in the fall of 2012, with an intermittently unresponsive control panel. By March 2013, the panel had failed completely.

Rated 1 out of 5 by m32082 Touchpad broke
Just like the other reviewers the touchpad broke within a year. I have had to unplug it and plug it back in several times a week. Now 5 years later, it is completely dead. This was not a cheap microwave and expected it work alot more years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by tk50 Failed Touch Screen
After about 1 year of use the touch screen failed. It freezes up. If I unplug the microwave then replug, it will work for a few hours. Every time I need to use it, I have to unplug it. I hardly use the microwave and the quality is terrible especially for such light usage. Total failure in quality. Cheap products last much longer!

Rated 3 out of 5 failed control panel
i have been very happy with this microwave up until the control panel started to fail. it is now completely dead. despite the many customers with the same problem, GE customer service's only offer is to send a repairman for $180 to check out the problem and they were unable to tell me how much parts and labor might cost if the solution was to replace the control panel. many other customers write of the same problem and say the panel is $400 to replace. better off buying a new machine.
this machine was manufactured in sept 2007, which means just a 5 year lifespan. very expensive and i am really discouraged that GE will not stand behind a defective product. clearly there is a problem with its circuitry or design.
i will replace my microwave with another brand. my GE Cafe range bought at the same time has had a few problems such as the knobs melting from heat from the oven and the griddle burner has never worked. disappointing.
