The oven works good on this product, but the microwave is horrible. You would be better off buying a regular wall oven and a counter top microwave. The microwave worked for about 5 months and then the magnetron went out. Called GE and sent someone out to replace the magnetron because it was still under warranty. Three days out of warranty the magnetron went out again. Called GE and they would not stand behind their product. I paid over $500.00 to have the magnetron replaced for the second time. It worked for about 4 months and the magnetron went out for the third time. I contacted GE again and they said that it is a common problem, and I should have purchased and extended warranty. GE has poor customer service, and I will never buy another GE appliance for my kitchen if they will not stand behind their products.

This Advantium oven is really 3 ovens in one - microwave, convection and speed cook ovens, which apparently is a combo of convection and microwaves. I'm still learning how to use it - the DVD is helpful! The microwave function is straight forward and powerful. The convection oven (still learning here) cooks things nicely - the fish turned out crispy on the outside like it's supposed to be. The Speed Cook function does reduce the cooking time slightly and there are pre-programmed recipes that guide you in selecting the cooking time. This will take some trial and error.

I LOVE my new GE Advantium wall oven. It does more than I thought....and I am still a novice, only having it for a month or so now. I was previously using a 19 year old Microwave/Jenn-Air and Wall Oven, which finally died. But now I am experiencing uses and speeds I had no idea were available to me..finally got to the 21st century. I need more usage time with this Advantium but I like what I have experienced thus far. I should write another review in 8 months and update this. The Viking was nice but I would have had to go thru a whole new cooking education, as you just don't put your food in the oven and bake...too much time to figure out length of cooking, etc, for me. The GE pricing was the best I had found, and I had searched for 3 months before making this purchase. The style/color (black) fits right into my custom wall cabinets like it was built in originally...love the flat stream-lined surface of the exterior as well. I'll review again in 8 months or so, but quite happy now!

The concept of Speedcooking is a good one. But you have to know what you're doing. The accompaning cookbook is heavily biased toward meat eaters. If you're vegan, as our family is, or vegetarian, you're pretty much on your own to figure out the Speedcooking setting. The online recipes also weren't much help. Something as simple as baking some tofu requires some expermentation. But, once you figure it out, you can enter your own custom settings.
As for using the microwave by itself, it's easier to use our existing dedicated microwave. I think the value of the Advantium will be in Speedcooking and as a warming oven.
