Rated 5 out of 5 This is a serious gas range
Looked at the Viking and Kitchenaid in this price range. The Viking model felt cheap and flimsy in this range, and I've had previous experience with Kitchenaid that made me hesitant.
This is least expensive of Thermador's 36" ranges but they definitely did not skimp. This is definitely for serious cooks. The 6 burners all have the same 18,000 BTU's - not like the Kitchenaid that have only one burner that can reach that high. The star burner definitely does make a difference - it provides a more even heat distribution. The oven is awesome it maintains good even heat and the pull out racks are usually found in more expensive models.
If there is a con it may be the preheating may take a while - but thats the price you pay for getting 36" vs 30" and not different from other 36 models.
