In regards to griddles. Thermador uses an electric griddle because ALL gas griddles on these domestic products generally provide uneven heat and a small cooking surface. The electric griddle has more passes and therefore heats the griddle more evenly. But my personal opinion is to get an all gas surface (not available in a 48" though) and just buy removable griddles to do your pancakes on one and your greasy foods like bacon and sausage on the other. The electric griddle feature on the Thermador also allows an accessory grill to be used adding more function to the rangetop.

Although the cooktop looks nice, the real problem is that absolutely stupid design of the griddle. It takes forever to heat up. If you want to cook anything, turn it up to high and wait...The griddle does not cook evenly. Within two months of installation, the Teflon (?) coating of the drip pan flaked off. It's totally useless. The griddle should have been gas. If I would have known how poorly the griddle performed I definitely would not have included it. I would have gone with the 36" 6-burner model. The gas burners are fine. Nothing exceptional, though. The grates are actually a little too big and heavy. Not real friendly, especially to the stainless sink. Hard to clean. Oh yeah, it's only been running since September '09.
