I bought this cooktop when I finally gave up on the idea of buying a super expensive stovetop from a viking or a wolf. The art of cooking is the tranfer of heat to an organic item to change it's properties for human consumption. I need consistant, even heat to do this properly. This product is the best value for the money. Two 20kbtu burners that can put out heat and 3 other burners that cover a range of other heats for the various levels you might need. It looks great too.

suechef why large burners in front?
This is the first sealed range top I have used. As a chef of 32 years, I prefer cooking on an open burner. Due to price issues, I couldn't afford a BlueStar or Capital cook top..and didn't like the aesthetics of the Thermador. I have friends who love their sealed elements, I'm sure primarily for ease of cleanliness. More about cleanliness later.
I purchased this because my sister has an older version. What I didn't realize was that her burners don't have the same BTU arrangement. MY 2 largest burners are in the front flanking a more reasonable size burner (for the home cook) The issue with the 20K burners? There is virtually no heat in the center of your pan; the pan heats up just fine around the edges, but that is not where I cook my food. I can sear a steak using my cast iron pan better on the electric stove I got rid of. Sad, but true . To compensate for the huge flame, I am forced to utilized a huge pan and then the flames shoot out the sides..this has discolored the stainless steel rim. At 5'7" I don't feel tall enough reaching over simmering front pans to utilize the smaller back burners for sauteing etc. Bad design.
If I had the $$$, I would rip this out and at least put in a Thermador with the star shaped sealed burner. I find myself cooking on the center front burner almost exclusively when I'm not simmering a sauce in the back.
Cleanliness is a joke as the finish shows every speck of dust, grease etc and streaks horribly when attempts are made to clean the unit.
I will say the grates are very heavy and overall the unit is sturdy. My rep at AJMadison was great, took time talking with me...I just prefer the flame of an open burner and that's not AJMadison's issue. I can console myself that at least I purchased this unit on sale and as part of a package and didn't spend $$$$

The customer service representative was knowledgeable and courteous. The product arrived in a timely fashion and the packaging was free from any damage. The unit works wonderfully. I hope to do business with AJ Madison again in the future.
