I have had this oven for about 2 years. It DOES work both convection and regular bake, but it DOESN't self clean without burning out the fuse. I bake a LOT and have never had this problem with other ovens' self clean feature.
When this happened the first time, the tech replaced the fuse, which is quite messy because (for safety reasons I guess) the appliance electrical cord is very short. So I had to empty ALL the contents of the cabinets nearby to get the work done.
Thought I figured out a way around it & used the self clean feature after having the oven on for baking. This worked once, but now I'm calling for repairs yet again.

The whole story-After it was delivered and and professionally installed, I noticed that the control panel and the oven door were mis-aligned by about 1/4 inch. It's very obvious and I'd expect an almost $2000 oven to not have such an issue. Service is replacing the oven door and control panel, to be installed on 2/12/2013. Let's hope that is resolved, but here's the worst part...
This oven is a baking AND convection oven, but it only convection bakes! It is normal for this type of oven to turn on the convection fan during pre-heating for normal bake (read: non-convection) mode. But the fan NEVER turns off! And now Kitchenaide is saying it 'works as designed'! Some dishes, such as dehydrated scalloped potatoes require the allotted bake time for the potatoes to adequately absorb the liquid. What I ended up with was burned on the top and crunchy in the middle sitting in a pool of liquid.
I'm working my way up the food chain at Kitchenaide and Pacific Sales/Best Buy, because this oven is designed and built wrong! I refuse to accept this!
