This is an expensive microwave that is cheaply build, noisy, and not very flexible. One gets the sense it is on its last legs, about to malfunction. I would guess I will get the 3 months of warranty out of it and then it will crash and burn. In the past, I have had luck with the GE Profile Spacemaker, having had two, each of which lasted over 10 years, until recently (is it due to the change to Government Electric???) when I have been through 2 in the space of 4 months (they won't shut off!). Run away from this KitchenAid, it's a bad deal!

For this much money I would expect a unit to last more than 4 years and of course the trim kit won't work with any other brand. But after 2 lousy kitchenaid units we will bite the bullet and buy a different brand as well as a new trim kit.

10 years ago, I remodeled my kitchen. I built a cabinet for a Panasonic Gold Series microwave. It died and I needed a unit to fit into the opening and blend in with my decor. This unit not only looks impressive but operates better than what was replaced. It is quite powerful, quiet and easy to clean. It has many functions however, the manual leaves something to be desired. While 1200 watts, it performs like a more powerful unit.
