Rated 5 out of 5 by Bob Excellent choice!
We were looking for a replacement for our Kitchenaid black glass range, and found this range had everything we wanted. We enjoy the 5th burner, and the special burners (one for simmering, the other a very hot one for bringing pots of water to a boil). This range fit perfectly in our granite, although the cast iron pieces are a little larger than the Kitchenaid had.
Our only glitch was, when the first range was delivered, it was shipped in a box that has been opened, the styrofoam support inside was broken and jammed in. The range glass was broken upon delivery, so we had to work that out with the Distributor, and eventually we got a new unit. AJ Madison was very helpful in this process. Overall, couldn't be more pleased!

NittanyChef Great cooktop
I'm a novice but frequent cook and pride myself on a beautiful kitchen. I wanted something economical but with all the perks of a gourmet kitchen. We've only had this cooktop for a week so far, but have gotten some good use out of it already. It's absolutely gorgeous in person (well accented with the GE Profile stainless steel telescoping downdraft) and we've gotten so many compliments.
So far, it has been easy to clean...thank goodness. I haven't had a super sloppy mess to worry about yet, but i've boiled over water from pasta and have splashed all sorts of seasonings and food and oils on it. My method is to use a cloth with soap and water to get the bulk of the mess up - immediately after eating dinner (which is when I tend to clean up anyhow). This allows the cooktop to cool down a bit, but not enough time for anything to really set in or harden. Then, I take a dry microfiber cloth and polish any streaks out. The Ceramabrite cleaner that came with the cooktop is good, too, but takes a little effort to wipe off and it streaks a little. I've also found that Pledge's multi-surface cleaner gives a nice quick dusting/polish if you're expecting company.
The controls feel well-made - very sturdy and smooth. I love the stainless touches, too.
The super-rapid boil feature and simmer feature are fantastic. My old cooktop used to burn rice on the lowest setting - so frustrating. Now I feel like I'm in control of my cooking. The lock feature is also fantastic - it should keep our little girl from hurting herself when she is tall enough to reach the buttons.
Love this cooktop, overall. It was well worth the wait. Highly recommend it!

I bought this GE cooktop JGP970 in black last November. I read the reviews about cleaning and decided to buy it anyway.
I find that cleaning it when the cooktop is completely cooled in necessary as stated in the manual. First I clean with the cleanser that came with the cooktop. Next I wipe with a damp sponge making sure to clean around all the burners and knobs. Finally I spray with a solution of white vinegar and water (which cuts the soapy residue). I dry with paper towels making sure to go around all the burners and knobs first and then the rest of the cooktop.
Sometimes I have to go over with another spray or two, but overall my cooktop looks beautiful when I am finished cleaning it.
I don't know what color the other two reviewers bought, but I have the black one which I knew would be hard to clean because I previously had a white stove with a black front. I always had a hard time getting the black part which is where the knobs were located clean. I would have to move to different parts of the kitchen so I could see in different lighting to make sure it was ALL cleaned.
I hope this helps anyone thinking of buying this cooktop.
My only real complaint is that the power boil burner was not stamped properly and as a result the gas does not fully come out of that burner and when the gas is on low it sounds like its blowing on and off. It's just that side of the burner though. I called GE and the woman was very pleasant and sent me a replacement promptly, but the replacement is made the same way.
It's the holes in the sides of the burner, they come all the way down on all the burners and on almost two thirds of the power boil burner, but only about half way down on the other third of that burner.
I plan on calling GE again, but I am thinking I will have to get a file and file the teeth myself.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Great Cook It Cannot be Cleaned
I have had this cooktop for almost a year and it is virtually impossible to clean. Any grease or liquid that gets on it during cooking smears over the top as you try to clean. I cannot see why anyone would want this cooktop unless you don't mind grease build-up on your coooktop.
I had a Dacor in my last home and am looking to replace the GE with another Dacor.
