It was time to replace my dead/dying cook top. I am stuck with electric; there is no gas in my kitchen. With a stratospheric electric bill, I wanted alternatives. Induction seemed cool (literally) but I had a five burner 36" wide unit, and only a 40 amp circuit. The Fagor fits the bill, though it is amazing to me to spend two grand on a stove.
Installation was not totally straightforward; the instructions are pretty minimal. It is a 220V only appliance, whereas my old stove had some 110v functions, so the wiring was different. Worse, the hole left in the counter top by the old unit was 1" too narrow, and -- 1/2" too deep. The Fagor was actually slightly wider than the underlying Ikea cupboard, and a little careful surgery was needed to accommodate it. A 36" x 3/4" aluminum strip, silicone sealed in place covered the gap, and looks like part of the appliance.
We had to get rid of all our aluminum pans. I took a small magnet to the store to make sure all the new ones would work. Cooking on it is a joy; we have been cooking fools since we got it. Clean up is easy, and it heats (and cools down) FAST! I do not yet have an electric bill to see if it is saving money, but if it does, and if it is a durable appliance, it is very nice.
