Frigidaire Ductless Split Systems
Frigidaire ductless split air conditioners separate the indoor evaporator, installed high on the inside wall, and the sound from the outdoor condenser. The contemporary design gives you high-style performance and environmentally friendly energy consumption by avoiding the energy losses that normally come with ductwork. It also allows you individual temperature control of the room you're in. By having the operating compressor outside you have library quiet operation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by HerbMD Excellent unit!!
This unit was purchased to replace a window air conditioner that cooled the first floor (about 1000sq feet) of our home. It has performed beyond expectations. It is whisper quiet... has an easy to understand and use remote... and a variety of cooling, heating and dehumidifying settings that make the area comfortable regardless of the weather. During the recent cool rainy period we experienced, the dehumidifying setting kept the house comfortable without decreasing the temperature. The exterior unit is compact and fit snugly between our foundation wall and the bushes.
Note: Experienced professional installation is mandatory as well as a concrete slab for the exterior unit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Rob One Issue But Else Good
This unit came with a line set, the refrigeration lines that move the heat or cold from the compressor to the indoor unit. One of the lines was not manufactured correctly and could not be used. Our HVAC installer needed to purchase a new line set (at my expense of course) in order to make the unit functional. We waited a long time (more than 4 weeks for this thing to arrive and it is my understanding that it was manufactured out of country and was back ordered... Looks like they were rushing things during manufacturing or so our HVAC installer believes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Matt Frigidaire Mini split air conditioner/with heat
For those of you who research purchases to an extreme like i do; let me save you some time. This product is manufactured by Nordyne and rebadged by Fridigaire. Nordyne makes air conditioners for around a dozen different compaines that rebadge and sell it. The Fridigaire product line gets all the same mechanicals and has the best price of any of the other brands.
I have had this unit about a month now and my bill just arrived indicating an energy savings of around 150KW over the month so i am happy about that. This unit replaced a window unit. I have a small home and this is my only air conditioner. The install was not the easiest thing. My AC installer accidently broke the thick copper line and was not able to repair it with normal tools. The line is a metric diameter and nobody locally could do anything to fix the problem or reflare the line. Nobody locally sold replacement line or tools to flare the end. I ended up buying my own flaring tool on the internet and fixed the problem myself. The local AC guy didn't even have an adapter for the new type of refrigerant this thing uses. The local AC supply store seemed to have no idea metric copper line sets existed. I am not sure how much of my problem is due to issues unique to this product or just an unprepaired AC technician. I like to think that i am on the cutting edge of technology that this part of Florida has not seen yet.
One noteworthy thing is that this machine uses icons on the unit to indicate what mode it is in. The icons i think could be better designed to be more intuitive. The cooling mode icon looks like a snowflake; that is fine. However the heat mode is designed to look like the sun with heat rays comming off it. The result is two icons that look very similiar from ten feet away. This isn't really a problem after reading the owners manual the first time.
My favorite thing is how amazingly quiet it is compared to the old window unit. Even the outdoor unit is very quiet compared to other outside condenser units. I think the plastic fan is the main reason for the outside unit being so quiet.
If you are doing this as a DIY install Grainger sells a plastic mounting pad that fits it perfectly. Also the R410 adapter is available from them too.
As time goes on i might give this unit 5 stars, but right now i still feel a little annoyed by the install problems and how it increased my cost.
I should make it clear that my install headaches will not happen to everyone, but might happen if you happen to damage your copper line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Air Boss 1 Outstanding
This thing is great! Super quiet (we thought the outdoor unit wasn't running while doing set-up functional checks). The heat function is almost "gas-heat" hot and the dehumidifier is excellent. This was a super easy install (new building) and anyone with basic electrical skills and a vacuum pump w/guages can do it. I love the way it automatically points hot air to the floor and can be set to circulate cool air around the room.
--Only problem, it took two weeks to be delivered from order date.

Luxuries of a Mini-Split (Ductless Split System)
Ductless Split Air Conditioner & Heat Pump products offer wide versatility in solving your cooling and heating requirements. The Indoor unit (evaporator) is mounted inside the room, and usually goes very unnoticeable. It is connected to the outdoor unit (condenser) via refrigerant lines & inter-unit wiring through a 3-1/2" opening in the wall. Since no ductwork is required, installation is simple, fast & efficient. There is no need to use up window space or cut large openings in existing walls, which could undermine the integrity of your structure, and even pose security risks. Since the Rotary compressor is located in the outdoor unit, compressor operating noise is virtually eliminated from the indoor. The indoor unit has been uniquely designed to provide Whisper Quiet operation while delivering comfort throughout the room(s). In addition, rotary compressors provide efficient, powerful cooling at the lowest noise levels in the industry.
