Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Leery about induction... Not ever using an induction stove before, we were not sure we would like it, and we didn't want to make the jump to a full induction top. This hybrid model gave us the chance to enjoy the benefits of induction cooking as well as an electric "griddle" option. Couldn't be happier, and Madison delivered the unit quickly and at a price we would have likely paid for a fully electric range. 4/30/12
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bad to the Bone This Range boils water in less then two min. and the temp. and cooking times are out of this world. 7/3/12
Rated 5 out of 5 by Pull. The. Trigger. Already. "This is the only review I have ever written. I was compelled to do this because, after two months using this Frigidaire range several times a day, I can say uncategorically that it is of the highest quality and a dream to cook with. The price (1500.00 delivered) is eminently reasonable. Keep in mind that this range is MADE BY ELECTROLUX for FRIGIDAIRE. There is no doubt about this, as the packing materials and owners' manual are clearly emblazoned with "Electrolux." Yes, I'm talking about the Frigidaire Hybrid Induction range. It is heavy, solid, and plenty attractive. I also offer my humble-yet-strongly-held opinions that: (1) Induction is nothing short of brilliant; it is superior to any other method of cooking available to regular folks, including gas. Disagree if you wish. The choice is a personal one. But in my view there really isn't a valid argument for a home (or even restaurant) chef to overlook induction. Sure, choose gas if you really, really like to see the flames or you fear that induction will confuse -- and thereby deter -- future buyers of your home/and range). But don't pass on it for the wrong reasons. You already have induction-ready cookware (cast iron, enamel, and most All Clad for instance). And you can also buy excellent pans for a song. I have been abusing IKEA's non-stick skillets for two months, and they have performed beautifully. They cost next to nothing (10 bucks for my favorite one). Personal preferences aside -- this much is simply incontrovertible: The large induction hob on this range heats faster and hotter than even the most powerful gas burner you can get. Check out YouTube for side-by-side comparisons if you don't believe me. You can fry an egg or get halfway through a stir-fry with the induction range by the time your Viking gas element gets the pan hot. The heat is that fast. Also, it responds instantly to your command to lower the temp. I noticed that everyone seems to focus on the speed with which induction hobs will boil water. This is helpful (if not a great party trick); but focusing on this alone might lead folks to miss that this speed also means: an incredible sear on a steak, properly flash-cooked stir-fry, time saved in reducing liquids for sauces, brown butter in a minute, etc, etc. And; (2) With induction hobs, there is virtually no good excuse for radiant electric ones. But I have found that having two radiant hobs (which are fine, but ...) was helpful in one instance: making a quick stove-top pan sauce from deglazing the drippings in a ceramic roasting dish I took out of the oven. You obviously can't cook with ceramic on the induction range. But the utility of the electric hobs may be limited to this helpful feature. And for those who are attached to some of their non-induction-ready cookware, the electric hobs are a good thing, subject to the otherwise inferiority of radiant hobs. In sum, this is an excellent range with very few downsides. I'll close with my only quarrel, picayune though it may seem. The idea of having a "chicken nuggets" and "pizza" button on the oven is almost embarrassing. I am not against chicken nuggets or pizza (hey, eat what you like!). But there's no way that every pizza will cook properly, or every nugget for that matter. And, do we really eat, as a society, that many chicken nuggets that they need their own button?" 12/11/11
