We bought the 42 inch, to cover our 38" island range. This style hood with the curved glass looks more contemporary when hung than i thought it would. This is ok as we have eclectic tastes, but... buyer beware if you have traditional or old world look in your kitchen.
The hood looks big over the island. The 42" would overly dominate a small kitchen.
So far, my wife and friends love it. It brings alot of light to the cooktop area, and the fan is quiet and effective. I was able to install this myself with no problems, but it's heavy. (50 lbs?) Once it's up, its rock solid.
The package doesn't include the 6" round duct pipe (lowe's for $4) or the wire nuts you'll need to make the connections. It also comes with 4 large phillips head screws to hang it from the ceiling. This was the worst part of the install... the space inside the frame is tight when trying to get a cordless drill in there, and with old ceiling joists that are hard as rock, even with pre-drilling, the screws stripped out and i had to give up. After replacing the screws with lag bolts of the same size, i was able to use a socket wrench instead of a cordless drill or screwdriver. Sooo much easier!
We also went with the recirculation kit, which was easy to install. All in all, this only took about 5 hours to physically install. Finding power, and getting that run took another 3.
On delivery, the aluminum grease filter had been bent in shipping. AJ Madison sent me a new one, no questions asked within 3 days.
