The Hoover story begins in 1907. Murray Spangler, an inventor who worked nights as a janitor, had an asthma problem. He called upon his inventor's creativity to find a solution to the dust that aggravated his asthma as he swept up at night. Spangler gathered a tin soap box, a fan, a sateen pillow case and a broom handle, and assembled an odd-looking, cumbersome contraption that managed to pull the dust away from the air he breathed. He quickly realized that this "suction sweeper," as he called it, had enormous sales potential, and he began seeking financial backing. W.H. "Boss" Hoover, owner of a leather goods manufacturing shop, bought the patent from Spangler in 1908, retained him as a partner, and soon had six employees assembling six units a day in a corner of the leather goods shop. Now that's a humble beginning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by OldMan GREAT!
This is my second one. First one wore out after 4 years. I don't use the vacuum mode too much but WASH & DRY are great. Have laminate and tile - works great on both. We have a dog so I use a regular vacuum first. One draw-back is that I have to order the detergent - Best Buy does not stock it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by MomRN Don't bother
I bought this a couple of months ago and it is not worth the money. I like the vacuum and scrubbing features but it doesn't put enough solution on the floor. It barely comes out and it doesn't leave it on the floor long enough to clean anything. I finally just poured the solution out my tile floor, let the scrub brushes scrub it and then dry it off. I gave it 2 stars because at least I am using clean water each time instead of dirty mop water over and over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by marcy123 best machine out on the market
i bought this machine over a year ago. I absolutley love it. It is the only thing that I have owned that actually cleans the floors. I have tried everything. the swiffer doesn't clean anything and just keeps costing. All steam mops leave streaks on the floor and floors never look clean. Plus with steam mops thre is no fresh scent. This machine is very quiet, and efficient. it has great styling that is lightweight but has proved to be more durable than I first thought when I purchased it. with 5 dogs, 3 cats, birds, and guinea pigs ther is a lot of dirt in the house. this proves itself with every use. It does a great job of sucking up the water on the first pass, and the spin scrub action gets out stubborn stains. it is easy to empty the dirt bin, and to fill with clean water. I could go on and on but just try it and you will save a lot of money and frustration.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jhansen Outstanding Performance!
I had owned one of the first machines and when we decided to put new flooring in, I donated it, thinking I was getting flooring that we couldn't use it on. We changed our minds on the flooring and I regretted giving it away. I ordered a new one and read the reviews. I was skeptical but ordered it any way. I must say, I was more than happy with the performance. The suction is so much more powerful than my old one and the brushes do any surface. We have dura ceramic and it does the grout and the tiles perfectly. . I am beyond happy. My floors look amazing and it is so fast and easy. I could not believe how dirty my water was and all the pet hair it got. You will not regret this machine. It is like they say when people complain something is not working. Make sure you have everything put together correct and that it clicks into place. The suction is outstanding. I LOVE this cleaner.
