With an 8x8 kitchen that formerly housed a big fat stupid fridge, this was the ticket. The footprint gives me so much more room. I have owned the Subzero 700 series all fridge and honestly for the Summit at what, a third of the price? , I'm thinking this is one sweet deal. The design is great, the shelving is substantial and actually it is quieter than the Subzero. Yes, it won't handle a liter bottle of soda, or a gallon of milk, but if you do most of your shopping at markets like Whole Foods instead of Costco, this unit will more than fit your bill.

The main reason I bought the Summit was to have a bottom freezer and gain more floor space in our small kitchen. That I got. I am delighted with a more open kitchen now that our former behemoth refrigerator has been hauled away. BUT the Summit falls short on some level. In the best of all possible worlds, the Summit would have: Bottom shelf that would accommodate 2 liter bottles. Those are very common these days and there is no place to put them. The door is too tight a squeeze so I have to lay them on their sides on a shelf. Just 1/8 of an inch in door tray width or of the height of the shelf spacing would have been enough to fit those bottles. That would be far more useful than a wine rack--but that's just me. Support system for the drawers. Both crisper and freezer drawers go a bit haywire when you pull them out. You have to carefully guide them with two hands. Not always convenient and should not be necessary if the frig. had been better engineered. The ice drawer would be sturdier. We have only had this model about a month and already the ice drawer is beginning to bow. If it bows any more, it will soon impede the opening of the top portion of the freezer that is a door that pulls down from the top and will be blocked by the lip of the drooping freezer tray. I am unhappy about that development. In general, the plastic drawers/doors seem to be made of an inferior grade of plastic. I worry that it will break so I have been very careful with it . In the course of the day, we all have lots on our minds. Certainly, treating your refrigerator with kids gloves lest the freezer door flip out onto the floor is not on anyone's priority list--nor should it be. I will say that the Summit is much quieter than our old refrigerator. That surprised me since I had read reviews complaining that the motor was loud. I bought it anyway since that was not so important to me. All the same,I am glad it turned out NOT to be loud. I do not like the plastic head piece with the Summit brand name on it that is snapped onto the very top-front of the refrigerator. It looks cheap.Bottom line: I did not want to pay more than about [$] for a mid-size refrigerator with a bottom freezer and a small footprint. The Summit met my requirements. If you need more than that, I would not recommend this product.
