The Hoover story begins in 1907. Murray Spangler, an inventor who worked nights as a janitor, had an asthma problem. He called upon his inventor's creativity to find a solution to the dust that aggravated his asthma as he swept up at night. Spangler gathered a tin soap box, a fan, a sateen pillow case and a broom handle, and assembled an odd-looking, cumbersome contraption that managed to pull the dust away from the air he breathed. He quickly realized that this "suction sweeper," as he called it, had enormous sales potential, and he began seeking financial backing. W.H. "Boss" Hoover, owner of a leather goods manufacturing shop, bought the patent from Spangler in 1908, retained him as a partner, and soon had six employees assembling six units a day in a corner of the leather goods shop. Now that's a humble beginning.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Kimmye Disappointed!!!
I had one of the older models for 9 years, it was the best machine!!! No complaints. After 9 years I had cracked tanks, etc... instead of replacing parts I decided to upgrade. Bought this machine and when putting together the onboard tool attachment the plug broke! Had to return to store and re-order. Had second machine now for almost 5 months and I am so disappointed! I have only used it three times. It leaks everywhere! The dirty water tank latches have both broke!!! Within a couple days of each other!!! The machine cleans very well, but I am so disappointed and frustrated with the cheap quality of the parts, especially when paying that amount of money!!! I expected it to perform as well as my first one!!! I can't return it to the store because I am over my 90 day period. I have a friend that has a Bissell that I have borrowed and I prefer the Hoover tank set up over the Bissell. With the performance of my first one, I stuck with them expecting the same performance and quality. I am so disappointed that Hoover let me down!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by CATCRAW SPINSCRUB HAND TOOL DOES NOT WORK
This is my second Hoover. It does a great job cleaning the carpet. However, I bought this model for the added feature of the SpinScrub Hand Tool and very disappointed - does not work. The round brush DOES NOT rotate so pretty useless!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Robind Great Results
I have owned my Carpet washer for a year now and I think it it great. I did have a problem with the handle on the dirty water tank and water did leak from wash tank but hoover replaced the items and since then I have had no problems. Just used today to clean the carpet at the church and for not being a professional grade machine I think it did a wonderful job.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mick Leaks Water
Like other reviews on here, the machine leaks water. I just got my machine today and on the first pass using the rinse feature water began running out of the back of the machine by the cord hook. As soon as you switch from wash to rinse, water comes out. I give this a poor rating for now. I e-mailed customer service so we will see what happens - I will give Hoover a chance to make it right. If I have to drive 50 miles to a service center though to get it fixed, it's going back to the store! I had a Hoover carpet washer for several years and never had a problem with it - it just wore it out.
