Rethinking how to store and preserve your food - Fisher & Paykel was on a mission when it created Active Smart, an advanced refrigeration system. Active Smart uses unique electronic intelligence to continuously monitor and adapt its cooling conditions, adjusting the flow of cold air based on daily use and climate conditions. So it's not working overtime or under par - just smarter and more efficiently.
Even the produce bins provide maximum care. Humidity controls keep lettuce green, herbs garden-fresh and fruit crisp for up to two weeks. What about the homemade gazpacho in the refrigerator, or the just-churned ice cream in the freezer? Independent sensors accurately monitor temperatures in both compartments to maintain the safest, most precise temperature.
This refrigerator uses 536 kWh/yr and has an estimated yearly operating cost of $59.44.
Your operating costs will depend on your utility rates and use. The estimated operating costs is based on a 2011 national average electricity cost of $0.1109 cents per kWh. For more information, visit www.ftc.gov/appliances.

This is our main home refrigerator for me and my civil union partner. We keep it full, and have used it to the greatest extent possible since October 2007.
The first interesting thing one might notice about this Fisher & Paykel bottom freezer refrigerator in person is that it is extremely thin-walled. The space inside is very well organized and European/Asian in appearance. There's next to no wasted space, at least in this non-icemaker version. One could usefully stack bricks, such is the edge-to-edge usability of the interior. Some may feel constrained by the three freezer drawers that way. I did at first. It forced me to be more efficient in my use of space altogether, and more thoughtful. The result was that I could keep more food after all, at precise temperature, by thinking ahead. The second thing one might notice, or not notice, is that the machine is virtually noiseless. It's awesome. I can only hear a bit of noise a few times a week, presumably as defrosting happens or something ... grin. Wow. One might also notice that the rear is nearly fully sealed ... little opportunity for vermin (a past problem during kitchen remodeling where this refrigerator replaced a shorted-out GE) and dirt to enter. Finally it seems to be very energy efficient, and signaling for doors being open is effective and computer-smart.
What's not to like? Lighting could be even better in the refrigerator, and the freezer is unlighted. Real temperature readouts at this price makes sense and is missed. Tighter control of plus and minus humidity in those drawers would be a plus. It's sometimes hard to yank open -- the seal is that good. And that's it. This is not your grandfather's refrigerator.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Donna It appears to be a good product
It looks to be a very good refrigerator for much less money than other brands for that style, but time will tell with use how well it holds up.
