I have had this unit nearly 2 years. Made tons of ice with no problems.

The ice machine was just what we needed for our little, specialty Hair Salon to assure that our clients could receive a nice, ice cold beverage.I am disappointed to say that the plastic ice tray did not cut the MUSTARD. I am now looking for parts. [...]

Rated 3 out of 5 by Chiller Doesn't store the ice, just makes it
I don't have an ice maker in my freezer, and as I'm on a well, I prefer my ice made from bottled water. Saw the Danby unit and thought it would be a great alternative to hand-filling ice cube trays. I guess I assumed it would make the ice and store it frozen in it's compartment. WRONG. It only makes the ice, which you then have to transfer to a freezer or ice chest so it doesn't melt. Probably great for parties or events, but I just wanted to have ice available and not take-up any valuable freezer space. Description says it "stores 3 lbs of ice", but the catch is it doesn't store it for very long!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Patrick-on-Atkins No substitute for a built-in icemaker
If you're looking for a standalone icemaker that can substitute for one built into your refrigerator, then forget it, at least if this is the best you can do (and at this price you ought to be getting the best). It makes ice quickly and is darned easy to use, but it's wet ice -- you can't transfer it to store in your freezer without it refreezing into a solid block. You can leave the ice inside the storage compartment and grab a glass full as you need it, but you're using a lot of electricity to keep the ice (semi-) frozen and, besides, the instructions don't recommend it--you're advised to empty the ice and replace any leftover water EVERY DAY. If you're having a summer party and want a semi-portable icemaker nearby, then you might be interested in this. But you'll save a lot of money and even hassle if you just buy some bagged ice and fill up a cooler.
