I purchased a dehumidifier (Model DDR4588EE, Serial # 1408030700377) on June 8, 2008. I used it for two summer seasons (2008 and 2009) and it performed well. I started it for this summer and it began working as usual. After one months operation, when I arrived after two weeks away, it was frozen solid with ice.
I took the dehumidifier to a Danby approved service shop. They reported that the evaporator coils were broken and that the repair cost was $187.00 Obviously repair was not an option since my original purchase price was $188.86 including tax.
Since the unit was only used for two years, I e-mailed Danby all the above details and indicated that I expected a replacement at no cost. After waiting 10 days for a response:
"Please accept our sincerely apologies for the delay in this response.
Given that you purchased that unit two years ago and it only carries a one year warranty we are not able to replace your unit for you. We apologise for this inconvenience.

So if you need a through away dehumidifier that works for two years, go for this best buy. If not, look at something other than Danby.
