Product Reviews
Rated 1 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Service, parts reliability??? Read the gripes, then read the review below. If the new unit works for at least a year without service, I will revise the star ratings-- if it worked, I'd give overall 4, performance 5 and value 3 because of the cost. This is my 3rd ASKO. First lasted 15 years The last unit was about 5-6 years old. Main board failed. Everything else on the unit worked perfectly. ASKO could not supply the part-- on backorder for nearly a year. With holidays coming up, I bought this unit to replace it. Since the new one failed, still ended up doing dishes in the sink. This machine worked for 3 days and then stopped- tank full of dirty water. (smelly) 3 service calls- some parts changed -- Main board failed. 3 weeks later, ASKO replaced the machine with a new one. Took a lot to get ASKO moving-- Parts on a new top of the line machine.. shipped GROUND. Once the local distributor got involved, the new machine was installed and working 3 business days later. The LCD display on the replacement machine has 2 vertical lines of pixels on the display that don't work, but the display is readable and the machine works. Capacity: One of my main reasons for buying ASKO. I also own a Bosch. The ASKO handles more dishes, and the racks are more durable and drying works better. I can get most dishes from a dinner party into 1 load in 1 machine. 4 Racks: I like the 4 rack design, but with the inserts in the middle rack, standard size dinner plates will only fit on the right side. Removing one or both of the middle rack inserts or completely removing the middle rack allows full stack in the lower rack. There is a thimble sized nipple that must be put on the water supply line in the back of the machine when the rack is out. I wonder how long it will be till I lose it? That feature needs to be improved. The knife rack (4th rack) is an ASKO exclusive. I use it, my wife never does, and forgets to remove the knives. The knife rack is in the upper left, and will rub on some stemware. It can be removed if you don't use it. The upper basket has 2 height adjustments. Remains to be seen if the added complexity will be durable. The suspension of the baskets is definitely better than most on the market. They roll smoothly. I prefer the ASKO stemware holders to Bosch. Silence: This machine, like the priors, is the quietest. Even the water fill is quiet. Silence is golden. No gurgling pump noises at the end of drain cycle either. Filter: I like the strainer filter. When glasses break, it is simple to remove, and does not harm the pump. Controls: Pretty complicated for a dishwasher. Several touch buttons, need to cycle through option after option. Since that's what caused me to do dishes in the sink over the holidays.. wait and see. Wife likes the pushbuttons on the Bosch-- simpler. Would be better if all the option buttons could be disabled or positioned far away to prevent inadvertent changes that compromise function --for example, setting the machine to top rack only wash. Interior light: I really like the light. Easy to see things in the bottom of the machine or scraps etc. Service and parts: I scrapped a perfectly good 5 or 6 year old Asko since the 300.00 board was N/A. What's the deal with that? At this price point, parts should be available for at least 10 years. For top of the line price, the service experience is definitely not. Long waits on hold, and they ship parts for a NEW machine by GROUND...10 days! (on OLD Bosch, parts come express...1-2 days) Construction: Compared to the Consumer reports best-- Kenmore top of the line- The ASKO has a pan in the bottom with a float to shut down water from any cause except a broken water line, and in my opinion sturdier construction. Installation connections are under the Sears machine, not under the ASKO. Spray arms are stainless. By my prior experience, rack construction is the best. The Kenmore's basket glides were almost, but not quite as good. The stainless cabinet flanges are better than Sears, and a bit better than Bosch. The toekick is also nicer-- (But the $$ of the Kenmore is 1200.00 on sale) Cleaning: So far so good. Like the prior Asko's I've had, they do a good job. Cycles are long. This machine has shorter cycles, I haven't tried them. If you load them properly, the dishes come out clean and dry. They take precious little detergent too. No "hot spots" on drying. Routine plastics do fine even on the bottom rack and standard drying cycles. 1/26/14
