Product Reviews
Rated 4 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Flamethrower Hot This rangetop is biased toward the HOT side (CGRT304N with 4 open burners, natural gas). Although they advertize their 23K BTU burners as having True Simmer at 145F, the lowest we could get them was 186-190F (186-187F at center of burner and 188-190F outer edge with 1/2" water in sauce pan using a Thermapen). This is even after getting instructions from Capital customer support and making adjustments by myself and then also by a professional technician. Bottom line, the 145F True Simmer is NOT ACCURATE and very misleading! I purchased through local dealer for significantly less and luckily, the distributor (without our knowledge) sent a modified model that included on 8-9K BTU burner and three 23K BTU burners. At first I thought "Oh no! Now I'm going to have to return it." But I tried it and will keep it because it has a smaller burner for lower temps. One of the big selling points was that it has the same burners all around and you don't have to think about anything if you shuffle pans on the stove. I'll have to settle and to be candid, my premise to insist on equal burners wasn't correct. You must know that the fidelity at low flame is not very precise and the hash marks on the knobs don't help so you need to bend over and look at the flame. The other three burners are 23K BTU (flamethrower hot) with good flame distribution right under the pan --probably the best flame distribution on the market. Due to this you'll need at least an 800-900CFM vent hood (on max). Most of the time we run it low but there are times where medium or high is needed. We set off the whole house fire alarms occasionally and this is reduced with cross-flow of air by an open window on the other side of the room/house. I've never used the burner on full throttle but could see that if you were trying to heat a big soup kettle or crab pot it would be helpful. There was a small problem with the small burner in that it was put together wrong and flames came from the inside seal. However, with a small flat blade screwdriver and some trial and error the problem was easily fixed. Capital has good customer support and their distributor called to check up to see if I was happy which I'm thankful for! Capital's website is a bit buggy though. One of the reasons I didn't buy a popular name brand was that I couldn't get multiple 12" pans that wouldn't hit the back wall or skew them off the center of the burners. Capital has enough room--just barely. I didn't get a griddle burner as most are too wide but if I had more room I'd get a 36" with a griddle burner. I couldn't convince my wife or the budget to get the range so I can't comment on the oven. A great feature is that the grates are all the same height facilitating moving / shuffling heavy cast iron pans around. Bottom Line is that it's a good quality but you must be willing to live with it running hot. I'm not convinced the extra few thousand BTU's is worth it. I'm disappointed all the burners are the same and can go down to a warming or True Simmer. If I had to do it over again, I'd consider a lower end or less expensive stovetop but am happy with the quality and the model I got (with one small burner). 10/4/13
