Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simply Amazing I bought this cooksurface with much reservations. We are in a world where you google every review before you buy, but for this one, there's almost no real people reviews available online; hence the reservations. * Appearance: Absolutely like nothing else out there in terms of gas cooktop. I thought my wife had designed a talk of the state kitchen... this just put it over the top 5 times over. Most of my guests have been stunned by it. This is a 6 star on a scale of 5. * Performance: - Installation: Almost straight forward, but not as quick as I thought. Since I'm going from one Fisher Paykel cooktop (traditional steel, gas) to another, I thought this would be a breeze, but it wasn't. One of my only pet peeve with Fisher Paykel is a bit of inconsistency I find in their product designs. All their other gas cooktops have the gas line connection in the rear right, this one has it rear left. And the connector size is different. It just made connecting it a bit more of a hassle than I originally imagined. Why can't they just keep the same standards across the board? Also, this cooktop uses a fan to suck in ambient room air for the high tech flame control. If your cabinet has no ability to provide for the hole or holes required for this air to enter the bottom of the cooktop, this is really a no go. I had not planned for this, but got lucky that I could accomodate this in my design without any ugly holes being visible anywhere. Note, you can't run a duct to the basement or anything, the ambient air has to be from the same room. - Temperature/Flame Control: Simply remarkable, like nothing else I've used before. I've one of those furnances in my basement that can precisely control heating in 5% increments by varying both fan and flame, so I knew this technology has been around for a while, but this is the first application of a similar technology i've read about and now used for a cooktop. Absolutely makes sense. No gas cooktops are energy star rated, but this unit definitely UPs the energy coefficient using this method. In addition to this remarkable flame control, having the sound and LED indicators and the mechanism for the stove to rise and fall back etc. depending on hot or not, etc. are absolutely useful in real life. - Utility: A lot of people, including myself thought the 3 burner situation was a no go to begin with. My wife, who does cook a LOT was adamant that it actually made sense. Per her, it's actually pointless having 5 or 6 burner 36" cooktops as either never use the burners in the back or if you do, you are constantly worried about the lack of safety in doing things. She convinced me that despite her huge cooking projects, she was better off with a 3 burner stove with the kind of flexibility this stove top provides. - Cleaning: The glass cooktop provides for an easy clean surface and most other things can pop out of the way to clean. This is just a short term opinion, long term, we'll see. This is an area where I will not trust my own short term opinion, but I hope to be pleasantly surprised. * Value: This is one area where I dinged it to a 4 star. My personal bias is really, this is a 5 star value at this price. Most people spend under $1000 for cooktops, give or take a few and from that point of view, this is definitely too expensive. But there's many people who'll throw out $3,000 or more for fancy cooktops. Compared to all of those, this is an absolute rock star, if you are looking for 36" tops. 5/12/10
