Amana - An Industry-Leading Brand
From the beginning, every Amana brand product has been made with the same core philosophy: to provide their customers with high-quality products that are reliable, meet their needs, and last longer than the rest. And they keep that philosophy firmly in mind as they build their industry-leading Amana brand Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTACs) and other heating and cooling products. Whether you are in the hotel/hospitality industry or provide assisted living services, Amana brand PTACs are designed to simplify your business with plain-and-simple product durability and advanced energy management features, while helping you to create the best environmental experience possible for your customer. Keeping these promises is top-priority through all stages of the production of Amana brand PTACs, from idea development through to finished product production. While they update the look of their Amana brand PTACs periodically, the components and internal assembly represent the result of a gradual evolution from the first Amana brand PTAC manufactured over 30 years ago. They focus on continual product improvement; the only new product concepts that make the cut are those that deliver valuable customer benefits. Available at AJ Madison.
How to Choose a Room Air Conditioner
Compared to large capacity central units, room air conditioners have several advantages. The initial cost of a room air conditioning unit is significantly lower than the cost of central air. Because room air conditioners are designed for cooling small spaces, operating costs are reduced. And, room air conditioners can provide personalized temperature and humidity controls that central systems cannot.
Calculating Cooling Capacity
Cooling capacity is the critical factor in properly selecting a room air conditioner. Cooling capacity is measured in British Thermal Units (BTUs) and typical models will range in capacity from 5,000 BTUs to 28,500 BTUs.
Choosing an undersized unit will overwork the unit and it will not cool properly. Choosing an oversized unit will cost more to buy and operate and it will not dehumidify properly.
We can help you to calculate capacity. Be prepared to provide specific information on:
- Room Dimensions
- A simple floor plan to show the location of doors and north-facing windows
- The number of people it will serve
- Sources of heat such as lamps, TV and appliances
- An explanation of what's above the intended room
- Your insulation provisions
Cooling Capacity by Room Size
Measure the length and width of the area to be cooled. Multiply the length by the width to determine square footage or square meters. When cooling rooms with uninsulated ceilings, great rooms, or southern or western sun exposures - step up to the next BTU size.
| Room Size | BTU |
|
| Sq. Ft. | Sq. m | |
| 150 | 14 | up to 5,000 |
| 165 | 15 | 5,200 |
| 216 | 20 | 6,000 |
| 350 | 33 | 8,000 |
| 425 | 39 | 9,000 |
| 500 | 46 | 10,000 |
| 640 | 60 | 14,000 |
| 900 | 84 | 15,100 |
| 1,110 | 103 | 18,000 |
| 1,170 | 109 | 18,500 |
| 1,435 | 133 | 22,000 |
| 1,672 | 154 | 25,000 |
| 1,960 | 182 | 28,500 |

Rated 2 out of 5 by CB Window Heat Pump
My Amana unit like this one lasted only seven years. Bought 5yr warranty with unit. Unit serviced multiple times for refergerant blockages. Chasis & exterior coils deteriorated after 5yrs. Very few competing models. Switched to mini-split.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ManCave Good unit so far!
Bought two units. One for workshop and one for the Man Cave. Each are ~ 900 sq ft. So far, I only used the heat pump portion of this unit since I haven't had it during a summer. The heat pump works well. Heats and maintains temp. Good air flow. I love the option to oscillate the air flow to distribute airflow around the room. Although have not needed the cooling yet, I've turned it on A/C on warm days and it blows cold air with good velocity, so I don't anticipate any problems this summer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by acres good but could be better
No matter how many times you're told that the unit comes with a rear grill, don't believe them because it doesn't. It is only available by special request from Amana and must be custom made with a wait time of 6-8 weeks. Don't even know the cost. If you're mounting in the wall, you must allow an extra 1/2 inch for height in the wall because of the bottom rib on the outer case. Specs do not account for this. Luckily, I read the reviews and another guy had brought this up, so I waited to frame the final opening until I received the unit. Good thing I did. On the good side, unit seems to perform as advertised, easy installation if your opening is the right size, remote is a nice feature and price is very competitive for the size unit and all the functions. Shop around a little because there are online dealers with slightly better price. AJ Madison will match the price. I wanted to buy from AJ because their customer service seemed far above the others.

Great product. One of the only manufactuers that make a ac/heat window unit with a heat pump. Visit Amana's site for all the information. I bought the commercial unit to get the most heating/cooling BTUs. Only problem I've had is the designation of when the emergency heat strips are on. Remember, the unit ships directly from the factory on a full size semi truck. Make arrangements.
