We purchased the Northland 60SSW (with Stainless STeel Wrap doors) as part of a complete kitchen remodel, as it fit our particular size requirements --- we wanted a coordinated 36" cooler and 24" freezer. Northland is basically the only one on the market. AJ Madison's price was very good, and we had plenty of lead time ordering...ordered in March of 2011, and received in May 2011, when remodel was underway.
When we finally unpacked at end of June (it had been in secure storage), we found concealed damage: the door had a terrible scratch and a dent, and the inside of the cooler box had a dime-sized indentation...had to have come from the factory that way. (By the way, my appearance rating does not factor in the scratch or dent...for an appliance it's quite nice looking!)
With a promise of a new door on the way from Northland via AJ Madison, the unit was installed in mid summer. It looks great (other than the scratch and dent), but it's LOUD and not very efficient...seems to run all the time.
Now, after about 45 days after installation, it seems the cooler's compressor or the thermostat is shot, as the maintenance and consistency of temparature is difficult at best (sometimes temperature goes to 55, sometimes to 32). In our kitchen's last incarnation, we had a Sub Zero for 23 years, and had exactly one major repair on it. How I wish Sub Zero had made units to fit our size needs.
It's now the middle of September and we just received the replacement door (yes, it took over two months to get a door ordered, produced and shipped) and it is scheduled to be installed next week. Hopefully, they will fix the temperature issue in the cooler at the same time; the freezer has run just fine...in fact the temperature in the freezer never moves! Assuming the door gets installed properly and the temperature issue gets handled (a big "if"), I would consider this to be a good relative value...but the ride getting to the destination has been a bit bumpy.
