We bought this fridge specifically for thee freezer space. For a 42" fridge it takes competitions out hands down. The only issue is the NOISE. Oh my God, it is so noisy that's impossible to sit in the kitchen. We have a pretty big island which we like to sit around to work, eat, and converse. When the compressor is on, it's impossible to hear yourself think let alone have a conversation. Others complained about the noise but I thought how bad can it be? It's pretty bad. Also, it turns on two times on an hourly basis for 15, 20 minutes each. Very annoying.
Is it typical for it to turn on that frequently?
Any suggestions as to how to reduce the noise? I was thinking of getting noise insulation material before putting the top grill back on, any issues with that?

I purchased this refrigerator because it seemed to have more interior room than a normal 42" built in. I was not disappointed. Because of how the compressor is configured, this unit has more shelving depth which makes up for the narrower width. It has a commercial interior appearance, with no digital readouts, which also means less electronics to break down. My only complaint so far is the compressor is a little loud. However, there are ways to mitigate that issue much more cheaply than spending several thousand dollars more for the popular refrigerator choices.

This is our first counter-depth, commercial-style refrigerator. We love the clean design and sturdy construction. We love the way freezer temperature keeps things frozen without causing ice cream to 'turn to granite'. The efficient design allows great storage, yet easy access to foods.

We bought this fridge to replace a Sub Zero because it was less expensvie and it fit in the same space (depth was an issue for us). It has been a major disappointment. By the time the required "installation" was completed ($200), and the icemaker repaired (twice)...which dragged along a plumber (twice), the experience has been VERY unpleasant. The local distributor (Summit) is rude, overpriced and really doesn't like Northland. That doesn't help. Northland says they are in Michigan and can't be of much assistance in NY!!! The fridge looks good, but is quite noisy (even when working properly). If you are in our position, buy the Sub Zero...it is better and cheaper in the long run...Good Luck!!!
