In the midst of the Great Depression, two aggressive young men emerged with two new products that would make major contributions to the housing industry. In 1932, Henry Broan developed and manufactured a kitchen fan called the Motordor Fan that provided quiet and efficient kitchen ventilation. His creation launched what is today known as Broan-NuTone LLC. Four years later, in 1936, J. Ralph Corbett developed a melodious door chime replacing the obnoxious door buzzer of the time. His development launched what is today known as NuTone, Inc.
Today, Broan-NuTone LLC is headquartered in Hartford, Wis. and employs more than 3,200 people in eight countries on three continents. It is North America's largest producer of residential ventilation products such as range hoods, ventilation fans and indoor air quality products and also holds major market positions in chimes, central vacuums, intercom systems, medicine cabinets, built-in electric heaters, whole-house fans, attic ventilators, paddle fans, ironing centers, trash compactors and speakers.
Six bags reduced to one. And five fewer trips to the garage.
No one really talks about it. The waste can under the kitchen sink. It's a necessary evil, or so they say. But that all changes with a Broan Trash Compactor. Broan has been designing these convenience appliances for nearly 40 years, refining the product while defining the category. And the result? A line of products that is the perfect complement to today's high-style appliances, and environmentally-conscious homeowners. Broan Elite XE, Broan Elite and Broan trash compactors take convenience, hygiene and style to a new level.
Broan Elite. Convenience made easy in a few simple steps.
Broan Elite trash compactors simplify waste containment and removal. A full-swinging, reversible door opens to an easy-to-clean compartment and a full-extension trash bucket. Its simplified control panel requires just two settings to start the process. Turn the activation key, close the door and touch one button. That's it. Removing the compacted bag is easy, too-lower the bucket front and slide the bag forward to the floor. There's no more lifting over the side. Broan Elite compactors also use their exclusive six-month odor control and neutralizing system. Rotate the dial once a month and a fresh segment is ready to work.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Miriam 22 Years of great service
We built our home new 22 yrs ago. Our Broan compactor took a beating through the years. We make garbage like crazy! 4 Kids, lots of company, family dinners, parties, bottles, glasses, cans...you name it. The Broan crushed it. It took a lickin' and kept on tickin'..until now! 22 years and only 1 repair later. Simply put, I am buying another Broan. Awsome machine. It is definitely worth the investment. If mine wasn't 22 yrs old, I would repair it again......love it and can't live without it!!!

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Steve T Dead after 24 months
We bought this after a remodel--partially due to the reviews here! This unit always had problems, and needed many parts replaced. Then finally, after about 24 months of owning it and many repairs, it finally needs entirely new guts as the motor has completely failed--which costs about as much as a new one.
So now we have a $900 paperweight in our kitchen after only 2 years.
By the way, the reviewer who said they had their Broan for "20 years"? What product are you reviewing? Certainly not anything purchased here!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by vltrnjd Nice for the price
To toss in trash you have to open the door and pull out the basket - but for the price it works great, looks good.

We live in a rural area and have to go to the dump weekly so we wanted this to help us economize on waste bags. The compaction is so effective that what used to be a daily trip to the garage with bags of waste is now only after several days. When I go to the dump the bags seem to weigh much more!
When first connected it tripped the breaker all the time until we asked the electrician to follow instructions - now it works fine. It has tripped the breaker only once since and we are not sure why.
The bags are expensive in some places so we are experimenting with generic ones.
Once we are used to using it for trash it will be easy. At the moment I have to think which trash to put where - recycling and composting are options in our kitchen.
