Top Rated Product at AJ Madison- LG LRBP1031

November 19th, 2009

LRBP1031OpenFullWe take everything our customers tell us about our products very seriously. That’s why we’re starting an ongoing blog about our top-rated products. We also now list product reviews on all shopping pages, so you don’t even have to dive into the product page to see how highly-rated the item is. So for our first top-rated post, I’d like to highlight LG’s apartment-size bottom-freezer refrigerator (LRBP1031), which had the most positive reviews on our site.

What appealed most to customers about this refrigerator was the sheer amount of storage space available, even with its compact size (24″ width/10 cu. ft.). One customer had this to say, “its slender size allows it to fit almost anywhere,” while another said, “the design was well thought out since it makes use of all available space.” Other features like cabinet depth makes the design sleek, while digital controls offer optimal cooling. The LRBP1031 is perfect for small galley kitchens or office kitchens.

Reading customer feedback on products is essential when shopping, so do your fellow shopper a solid and leave a review after purchasing from AJ Madison.

How to Score a Higher Resell Value on Your House

October 28th, 2009

Let’s face it. That brown, 20-year-old Westinghouse refrigerator just doesn’t liven up the room like it used to. The display on the range is broken, and the dishwasher, whose color can only be described as “ashy beige,” has a hard food disposer that makes a dissonant crunching sound every time it’s in use. Not to mention you’ve wanted to replace cabinets, tiling and counter tops practically for a while now.

Believe it or not, it’s time to update your kitchen!

Refreshing your kitchen can be expensive, yes, but you don’t have to do it all at once. Whether you’re replacing everything because of wear and tear, or because you want to increase your home resale value, you’re better off replacing your home appliances first before you gut the entire kitchen. Keep in mind that even buying all high-end appliances is cheaper than the average total cost of granite counter tops and oak cabinets, and upgrading the look of your kitchen is a lot easier than removing everything and starting from scratch. If you want to start updating your kitchen, but don’t want to break the bank, your best bet is to scope out replacements for your refrigerator and cooking appliances.

Time Running Out for Electrolux Rebates

September 1st, 2009

It’s September already and that means 20 more days of our Electrolux appliance rebates. With rebates up to $750 back, it’s a good time to shop.

“Cash for Clunkers” is over but now states are vying for “Cash for Washers” money. Which means you’ll be able to trade your old washers, dryers or dishwashers for cash. If your state has the stimulus money, you just have to purchase energy-efficient appliances to be eligible.

The U.S. Department of Energy has made nearly $300 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Each state decides how much of a rebate to offer and the rebates have already begun in some states.

We have these Electrolux appliances:

Get a rebate on your old and your new appliances by combining these deals. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen the government help with a home remodel.

We’ve Found the Ugliest Kitchen Appliances and they’re in PA!

September 1st, 2009

We at AJ Madison scoured high and low and finally found a winner for the Ugliest Kitchen Appliances Contest! Out of the many submissions we received, Jan and Richard Parker of McKeesport, Pennsylvania indeed had the ugliest kitchen appliances of all. Just take a look below.

The Parkers’ appliances have a rich history that begins with Italian immigrants and spaghetti sauce. Back in 1947 Italian restaurant owner Woody Antonelli built his home, outfitted with brand-new Roper appliances (a brand now absorbed by Whirlpool), on a private lane in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Later, in 1978 the house was sold to Arthur and Sally Parker, Richard’s parents. Sally was quite the entertainer and cooked frequently. “Arthur worked with the chamber of commerce, and he and Sally would have parties for 50 people on a regular basis,” said Jan. “In their little kitchen, which is like 4 feet by 2 feet, she’d be cooking away, and everybody would be full when they left.” When Arthur and Sally passed away last year, Jan and Richard inherited the house, along with those same ugly appliances. Room by room the Parkers have been remodeling their 1940s-era house. The Parker’s now have $2,000 worth of new Frigidaire appliances for their kitchen. Stay tuned to see what appliances they decide to choose.

Back to School with a Dorm Fridge

August 18th, 2009

It’s time to get ready for college life – right now students all over the country are returning to school. Whether you live in a dorm, or share a house or apartment, you’ll probably appreciate your own refrigerator. If your college experience was like mine you have two problems:bca4561b_final

  1. You have to fight for fridge space.
  2. Your roommates eat your food.

If you eat in a cafeteria, you want a dorm fridge to keep snacks in when it’s closed or when you don’t want to leave your room while you’re pulling an all-nighter.

I recommend the Avanti 4.5 cu. ft. compact refrigerator because it is Energy Star Compliant and will save money on your electric bill. But the best part is it comes with a lock!

I’m curious about your college fridge—did you have to share one and did people eat your food? Stories please!

Smaller Homes, Smaller Home Appliances

August 7th, 2009

There’s a trend to downsize the size of your new home. Last quarter average home square footage dropped by a few hundred. It could be because of the economy and also a way to be more green. Interestingly, those aren’t the only reasons. Lofts build in downtowns of big cities are popular with the younger crowd. Baby boomers want to downsize for lower maintenance homes.

Appliances are downsizing to fit. GE Profile has a new undercounter refrigerator. Modules include a wine reserve, double drawer refrigerator, beverage centers, fresh food refrigerator or bar refrigerator with ice maker. GE also has narrower dishwashers that are 18-inches wide to fit in tighter spaces. You can get stove hoods in 30″ wide models – here’s the stove to match.

If your downsizing for any reason and need appliances for your kitchen, it’s a good time. Right now at AJ Madison we will give you $500 cash back when you buy 2 or more GE Profile or GE Cafe kitchen appliances.

Your Favorite Kitchen Appliances

April 5th, 2009

Lately I’ve been really into kitchen appliances. Like many people we’re eating at home more – and therefore investing in quality. It makes cooking more enjoyable to make quality and healthy food. I recently purchased a few things that I thought were extras but ended up being our favorite kitchen appliances (in this case small appliances).

  1. A stainless steel and black juicer. It’s easy to clean but best of all I’m drinking my daily servings of fruits and vegetables. I consider it part of healthy eating and weight loss. Most mornings I drink fresh made juice from my juicer.
  2. A Panini Grill. This was my most reluctant purchase. Now most Sunday afternoons we make sandwiches on our panini grill. We add grilled mushrooms, onions, turkey and the secret ingredient: Target brand steak sauce. Incredible.
  3. Belgium waffle maker. We splurged on a high end Belgium waffle maker and now I look forward to weekend mornings. They taste better than eating out and they’ve become a family tradition.
  4. Personal blender. I love to make smoothies and mix salad dressings in my small blender. It’s a snap to clean and sits out on my counter without adding a lot of clutter to the kitchen. Sure I pull out the large blender for bigger jobs, but I use the small one much more.
  5. Filtered water dispenser on my stainless steel refrigerator. I refill my water bottles and having high quality water means I drink it more often. I love the taste. I love that my fridge tells me how much water I’m getting (great for recipes).

Tonight I went to a bridal shower and the woman who hosted it is an artist. Do you know what she paints? Small kitchen appliances, among other things. Not the sleek new ones, but vintage appliances. It inspired me and reminded me of the simple appliances we use almost every day. They become part of our life. I thought of the appliances that I use most often. The ones I use every week, sometimes every day.

Whether they are new or you’ve had them for ages, we all have our favorite kitchen appliances. What are your favorite small kitchen appliances?
