Cooktops
Cooktops are available in two styles. “Drop in” cooktops are designed to fit into a cutout within
the countertop for a flush, built-in look whereas a “range top” is slid into the countertop with the controls on the front panel. Compared to a Cooking Range (Stove) which combines cooking and baking all in one unit, you would need a separate unit (i.e. wall oven) for baking. The primary reasons for buying separate cooking surfaces and ovens are: the built in look, the flexibility of buying a double wall oven or simply the ease of cleaning the appliances which are much easier in built in appliances vs. a cooking range. Another benefit is the number of burners you can buy. With a standard 30” cooking range you get 4 burners. However, by purchasing separately, you can buy a 36” cooktop with 6 burners while using a 30” wall oven. Most designer kitchens will include a cooktop/wall oven design vs. a cooking range.
